Editor-in-Chief

  • Oversee and coordinate all roles – section editors, copy-editors, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.
  • Schedule, draft agenda and chair monthly meetings
  • Plan, schedule, draft agenda and chair additional meetings as necessary with approval of the Committee
  • Notify all Committee members of upcoming deadlines
  • Approach candidate[s] for the position of Guest Editor; liaise with Guest Editor
  • Approach candidates for speakers at the Academic Writing Seminar and QPR Volume Launch
  • Chair and speak at Academic Writing seminar, QPR Volume Launch
  • With the Treasurer, ensure that the QPR is financially stable by identifying and applying for potential sources of funding
  • Proofread entire finished journal for formatting, spelling, grammatical, factual, errors etc.
  • Will be expected to attend the Academic Writing Seminar and the QPR Volume Launch and help with set-up and clearing up afterward

Deputy Editor

  • Support Editor-in-Chief in notifying all Committee members of upcoming deadlines
  • Support Editor-in-Chief in scheduling, drafting agenda and chairing monthly meetings
  • Support Editor-in-Chief in overseeing and coordinating all roles
  • Support Editor-in-Chief in approaching candidate[s] for the position of Guest Editor and liaising with Guest Editor
  • Assist Editor-in-Chief in overseeing the Academic Writing seminar and QPR Volume Launch
  • With the Editor-in-Chief and Treasurer, ensure that the QPR is financially stable by identifying and applying for potential sources of funding
  • With the Editor-in-Chief, proofread entire finished journal for formatting, spelling, grammatical, factual, error etc.
  • Fill in the role of Editor-in-Chief in the event of illness or other unforeseen circumstances
  • Will be expected to attend the Academic Writing Seminar and the QPR Volume Launch and help with set-up and clearing up afterward
  • Must notify Editor-in-Chief of any problems encountered in the course of conducting their duties

Finance officer

  • Oversee QPR’s finances
  • With Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor, identify and apply for potential sources of funding
  • Organise venue, refreshments for Academic Writing Seminar, QPR Volume Launch, and any other events throughout the year
  • Will be expected to attend the Academic Writing Seminar and the QPR Volume Launch and help with set-up and clearing up afterward
  • Must notify Editor-in-Chief of any problems encountered in the course of conducting their duties

Secretary

  • Take minutes at all meetings, disseminate to Committee within no fewer than six days
    1. Also place minutes of all meeting in QPR Dropbox within the same period
  • Oversee anonymity of applicants
  • Compile email list for contacting QUB Schools, UK universities
  • Will be expected to help set up the venue and refreshments for and to attend the Academic Writing Seminar and the QPR Volume Launch and help with set-up and clearing up afterward
  • Must notify Editor-in-Chief of any problems encountered in the course of conducting their duties

Section editors (three each for our four sections: NI, GB & I; EU & Intl; Social Issues; Political Theory)

  • Select three articles for publication
    1. Make corrections for the author to bring the work up to publishable standard
    2. Provide feedback sheets for each article which is not selected, giving the authors suggestions for improvement
  • Read all articles submitted to their section and be able to justify their choices to the other editors in their section
  • Must be able to dedicate time in February and March to meet in person with the section editors and with the section with which they are cross-checking
  • Cross-check with the section editors of another section
    1. Read all submissions to the other section
    2. Confirm that the chosen selections of the other section are of good publishable quality
  • Once authors have submitted their amended articles, forward these to the Editor-in-Chief to be submitted to the Guest Editor
  • Liaise between authors and Guest Editor, copy editors, etc.
    1. Once the Guest Editor’s feedback has been obtained, forward this on to the author for further corrections
    2. Submit corrected articles to copy editors
    3. Forward any last changes on to author
    4. Forward corrected draft on to copy editors for finalising

Copy editors (four)

  • Send final copy of all articles to Editor-in-Chief/Deputy Editor for a final edit and formatting
  • Liaise with section editors to pass feedback on to authors for correction
  • Proofread all articles for spelling, grammatical, factual, errors, etc.

Publicity and web design officer

  • Oversee social media presentation of the QPR
    1. Website
    2. Facebook
    3. Twitter, etc.
  • Look into broader dissemination of the QPR
  • Type-set new volume
  • Head up publicity campaigns for the QPR relating to vacancies on the editorial staff, Calls for Submissions, and events like the Academic Writing Seminar and QPR Volume Launch
    • Draft flyers, email, etc. to bring these matters to the attention of the student body at QUB and further afield
